  16. Jameco [(800) 831-4242] has many of them in stock, but unfortunately,
  17.  the 8701 is not one of them. But here is an intriguing thing. The
  18. Commodore Diagnostician chart lists the 8701 as U31. Then checking
  19. the C64 schematic, they list U31 as being a 74LS629. This is NOT a 
  20. video chip. It is a dual voltage-controlled oscillator. Jameco DOES
  21. have this chip on sale for $1.25. Is your 8701 chip a 16 pin unit?
  22. If so, this may be the right chip.
  23.     The other intriguing thing is that at the bottom of the chart
  24. it says "Do not use 8701 IC.", so the 74LS629 may be the proper 
  25. replacement.
